Chinese Poster Translation

Project Gallery: | 1 |

I found this poster wandering around Chongqing and can't translate it exactly, but it obviously appears to be some pro-China hype material. The photo is attached for anyone who can help get an exact translation!

  • 尽忠职守 维护法纪

Jìnzhōng zhíshǒu. Wéihù fǎjì.

Lit: Loyal duty. Safeguard law and order.

  • 信息时代 先锋战警

Xìnxī* shídài. Xiānfēng zhànjǐn.

Lit: Information age. Vanguard battle police.

* Putonghua pronounciation. Guoyu pronounciation is xìnxí.

What happened to the

What happened to the pinyinator?

All fixed

Thanks for the heads up, the pinyinator was broken after I updated a few things on the site, it's back up and working.

Military or Police?

The posters look like police recruitment material rather than the military.

Isn't there a translation already right on the posters? Or are you looking for an alternate translation?

Picture truncated on right...

The picture is truncated on the right hand side so you can't see the last character.

If the image is too large..

I fixed the problem for those using the Firefox browser - if the image is too large it will be automatically sized down. Unfortunately IE doesn't support this functionality. The way to work around this is manuall resize your images before uploading so that they are no wider than 600 pixels. Of course this requires experience in working with images.

Update:  I removed this feature because the automatic resize in web browsers tends to really screw up the images - in the case of the comic book pages, it made the characters much more difficult to read.  So it's up to the project originator to make sure images are no larger than 600 px (or the right side will be cut off).

Firefox doesn't work either

Dr. Insano, FYI, I'm running Firefox now and the picture is still cut off on the right hand side.

Here is what the site should..

Here is what the site should look like:

http://browsershots.org/website/http://www.chineseblast.com/node/53#success

Is this what you are seeing?

The image will be cut off on the right hand side because it's too big for the web page. If I program the site to show the entire image, the right hand menu would get pushed off and it would throw off the entire layout of the site.

Automatically resize?

So there's no way to automatically resize the image within a certain boundary box? Surely there is...not that I know, but Dr. Insano, you surely do!!

Doctor Insano's picture

Indeed there is hehe

There is a way, yes, however there is a significant drawback when you leave the automatic resize to the browser - the image can become very distorted, making it much harder to read chinese characters, for example.

I'm not sure which is a better trade-off.  Resizing to get all of the content with a sacrifice in quality, or cutting off the image to maintain quality but potentially losing content.

The problem of course is non-existent if the material at hand is 600 pixels or less.  I'll resize this one myself.
